Scrap Party for Greenbrook Elementary

We had our scrap party for the Greenbrook Elementary auction fundraiser this Saturday. It was a fun and the eleven 2nd grade girls that came had a blast making their scrapbooks.

Here is the scrapbook I made as an example:

It was made out of handled paper bags and looked like a purse when it's closed. So cute!

Name Signs Galore! And Much Much More!

I've been super busy making name signs for customers on ETSY! I would love to share a few of them for you here:

These were zipper pulls for the kids' backpacks that I made to use for the party favors for my son's birthday party. He loves the Skylanders video game and there aren't many things available with that theme. So I made them myself, of course!

Then, there were my daughter's (Stephanie's) birthday party bags:

She had a Hello Kitty theme. These were the prototypes. Here are the ones I actually used:

Now let's see, what else did I make recently?

Oh yeah, I designed a scrapbook made out of handled paper bags! This little album features the lovely Carly and her BFF's! I designed it for the art auction at my son's school. I'll be teaching some kids how to make this at my auction class coming up in April!

I also made some cards for some of my Etsy customers to thank them for their business!

Altered CD Christmas Card

Using my husbands old CD's, I recycled them and made an altered Christmas card. I think it will be perfect for my son's 5th grade teacher this December. I may even add a pocket for a gift card later on!

I thought I'd try my first challenge from hidinginmycraftroom.com. The challenge this week (#12) is to alter something.  Laurie's example was Christmasy, so I was inspired to pull out my Christmas stash. Here is the final product:

First, I gathered some supplies.  I got 2 CD's and cut 2 holes in the top of each about an inch apart, using my Crop-a-dile. Then I cut 4 different circles from Christmas paper with my Cricut (George and Basic Shapes at 4.75"). I cut holes in the paper to line up with the holes in the CD's.

Next I adhered the paper and inked the edges to distress them.

I chose coordinating ribbon (4 colors), cut each piece about 7", tied it through the two holes at the top and trimmed it.

Next I cut ovals out of scraps with my punches.

I inked the ovals, stamped the sentiment, and adhered them.

I added a circle to the inside to write a message.

The back has a cute image of Santa on it.

Designed A Logo: Who Knew?

A friend of mine does college advising for high school students. She needed a logo for her business cards, letterhead, and advertisements. I said I'd give it a whirl and I ended up working for a few days on it. After about 20 drafts, here is what it ended up looking like:

See, who knew, right? I had fun experimenting with photoshop and trying to interpret her ideas and translate them to the design.

I uploaded this cute T-Rex baby explosion brag book to my etsy page a few days ago. I just love his googly eyes.

We Scrapped 810 Pages!Kindergarten Memory Books

My fellow scrapbooking friend and I worked on the kindergarten memory books for our sons' kindy class last school year. She coordinated (and I helped coordinate) the entire process including taking photos, uploading them, printing them, and scrapping them. We organized nights where just she and I scrapped. Other nights we had coordinated times that mom's from the class could come and work on their children's books. After a whole schoolyear of photographing and scrapping (including A LOT of Cricut cutting), we completed 27 scrapbooks that were about 30 pages each!!!!

Let's see...that's about 810 pages!!!!!!!!!!!!

Every child went home with their whole kindy year documented (including the teacher)!

So these pages look pretty basic, but they are really a labor of love. These were some of my favorites. We had to conserve money and time, so we came up with a plan. We just used basic cardstock as the backgrounds in bright colors, lots of die cuts that we Cricuted ourselves, lots of hole punches, and lots of decorative scissors. I am proud of how they turned out, especially since my friend and I and a few other moms did the work mostly by ourselves.

Clipboards at Bauchercon

I helped my famed mother in law, Penny Warner (with me above left, then me with a fan/student from our class), when we taught a class at the Bauchercon-by-the-Bay San Francisco this year. It was actually on my birthday, Oct. 16th, at the annual mystery writers converence. We taught everyone how to make a mystery themed, altered clipboard. We thought this would be a practical gift for everyone to make and then actually use! They turned out adorably, if I do say so myself!

I really cut down this year on doing the holiday boutiques because I wanted to focus on being home with my family more. I just wanted to share one photo of my brother and me at this year's boutique for my mom's club. He was so sweet and totally came by to visit!!
